The rap star surprised city straphangers Saturday when he walked into the Canal Street station at around 6 p.m. Escorted by plainclothes police officers and his own security, Jay-Z didn't seem to pay for the ride and attracted a loud band of followers.
On the commute, Jay was surrounded by photo-snapping fans and even struck up small talk sitting by an older woman, who looked happy to see him.
When he got to Atlantic Ave., Jay-Z breezed through the turnstiles, crossed a red light, and temporarily stopped traffic.
Crowds lining up for the show started screaming the minute they saw him, a source said. Saturday night's show was the last of eight concerts the rapper performed this week at the Barclays Center.
