It refers to a knowledge of God that brings you into union with Him, and not a mere social acquaintance or general knowledge of God. This is the knowledge that God seeks for us to have; this is what He wants! This is the big thing about Christianity: we�re brought into a special type of knowledge that the world can�t have; an esoteric knowledge that the speculators of this world can�t possess. Man�s philosophy can�t produce it. This is the knowledge that the Lord Jesus Christ has brought us into. Every time you find the word �knowledge� in the New Testament, it�s not always translated from the same Greek word. However, this particular one used in our text is the highest kind of knowledge that God wants us to have; it is the knowledge that brings you into union with that which is known. This is why the religious men and women of the world, no matter how erudite and scholarly they may be, still can�t comprehend spiritual realities, because they�re not functioning in this knowledge of God. Through this knowledge�the �epignosis� of God and of Jesus�you can have grace and peace multiplied in your life. Imagine what your life will be like when grace and peace are multiplied unto you! Grace brings promotion, favour and manifold blessings into your life; and with all of that, unending peace with prosperity. This will only happen through the intimate knowledge of God, and of Jesus, our Lord.
