“When you share history with somebody, then you tend to fall in love with somebody else, it’s kinda difficult. Is there such thing as loving two people? I don’t know if that’s possible, but for me, I feel like that,” says Brown in the short film.
We don’t have an answer for you, “Breezy.” But — just saying — you might want to start with another question: Does “love” mean beating somebody unconscious in the front seat of your car?
We’ll let you all sit on that — but if Brown is really, truly feeling all twitterpated and torn up inside, there’s at least one thing he seems completely sure about: how to sell a scandal.
Weeks of Rihanna/Chris Brown reunion rumours escalated this week, as we’ve reported over the last two days. Are the parties in question ready to comment? Apparently.
But Brown’s video (posted below) isn’t presented as some spontaneous, shot-on-webcam DIY video blog — despite Brown sending the film out via Twitter with the title, “The Real Chris Brown.”
It’s got a director, David Alan (who’s helmed various music videos, in addition to creating behind-the-scenes featurettes for Universal artists including The Wanted and Chris Brown). And Brown is shot, in moody black and white, in the back of a car — while various similarly moody illustrative clips are intercut throughout. Chris Brown sulking in a corner! Chris Brown popping bottles! Chris Brown on stage! And, more manipulatively, Brown partying with Rihanna.
Brown never mentions his pop-star ex by name in the piece, but what’s that they say about pictures? They say a thousand, potentially nausea-inducing, words. And this video, whether intentionally or not, plays like an ad campaign for a scandal. Or maybe just Rihanna and Brown’s next duet. (Another slice of “Birthday Cake,” anyone?)
“Y’all are probably like, ‘What the f-ck is he talking about right now?’” Brown says in the video. “But I’m just saying, I’m being real. I don’t want to hurt either or. I’m not trying to be a player. I’m not trying to be a dog. None of that,” Brown continues. “My mama raised me differently. I just can’t. It’s too much sometimes.”
Brown confirmed the end of his one-year romance with Tran yesterday, telling Us Weekly that he “decided to be single to focus on my career. I love Karrueche very much but I don’t want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna. I’d rather be single allowing us to both be happy in our lives.”
