15-Year-Old Boy and 93-Year-Old Woman Burnt to Death in Kenya

A 15-year-old boy and 93-year-old blind woman burnt to death last night in a fire incident in Nairobi’s Kibera slums, Kenya.

According to witnesses, the two were trapped in the inferno that started from one of the neighbour’s houses.
The boy, Ken Odida, 15, was chocked as he tried to salvage their belongings from the house while the elderly woman, died as she tried to find her way out of the burning house.
The fire caused damage and deaths because fire engines could not access the scene on time. Residents had to use bare crude means to fight the fire, as it spread fast from one structure to the other.
More than 30 structures were burnt down in the incident.
Kilimani Deputy Police Boss Johana Chebii said they were called and informed of the fire incident too late.
“We are yet to know the cause of the fire, but we lost two people including a 93-year-old woman,” said Chebii.
The two bodies were later moved to the City Mortuary.
