Barely
24 hours after a gang of armed robbers unleashed terror on Akure, the
Ondo State capital, killing one person, a middle-aged man was shot dead
in Ala area of Akure on Thursday by suspected assassins.
The gruesome murder, which happened around 1.30 pm, occurred few kilometers from the Ala Police Division.
The
man, identified as Cyril Adengbenro, Managing Director of Cicon Oil,
was dragged out of a Toyota Avenis car before he was reportedly shot by
the assassins. Security sources said the killers trailed the victim from
Lagos, before he was finally blocked at Akure metropolis and killed.
A
witness, who spoke with NEXT, said the assassins smashed the glass
beside the driver's side before dragging the man out of the car.
'After
shooting their target, the men waited for few minutes to confirm that
he was dead before driving away,' the witness said.
The body of the man was later taken to the State Specialist Hospital, while his car was driven to the Ala police station.
The
public relations officer of the state's police command, Adeniran Aremu,
confirmed the incident. He, however, said the command does not have
enough information about the killer and the deceased as at the time of
filing in the report.
'The command was already after the assailants, with a view to getting to the root of the matter,' he said.
Killed merchant
Last
Tuesday, Dayo Ogunmolasuyi, a man in his early 40s, was also reportedly
murdered by people suspected to be assassins. Mr. Ogunmolasuyi, a cocoa
merchant based in Owo, was killed after he had collected a substantial
amount of money from a commercial bank in Akure. He was shot at a close
range at the first gate of Ijapo Housing Estate by six men who rode on
motorbikes. The killers later escaped on their motorbikes, riding
through Fiwasaye Road.
