Man Arrested For Driving At Full Speed With Girlfriend On Car Windshield

A Georgia man was arrested for allegedly speeding down a highway with his girlfriend on the hood of his car.

Gwinnett County police arrested Jonathan Salas, of Duluth, on Tuesday after they received several calls from witnesses that he was driving north at 85 mph in the rain on Interstate 85 with his girlfriend, Leidy Amu, on the windshield.

“I did almost a quadruple take to be honest with you,” witness Adam Marlatt told ABC affiliate WSB. “Then I see her beating on the windshield, crying, as I get close, she’s begging him to pull over. Not only will he not look at me, but he’s not even paying attention to her.”

A group of drivers boxed Salas in until he finally stopped on an exit ramp. The altercation began at their home, Amu told police. The couple was arguing and got into a physical fight as Amu tried to leave the apartment. Amu, 19, went out to the parking lot and sat on the hood of the Jeep until Salas came out and they argued again.

Salas, 29, got into the Jeep and took off, according to a police report. He pulled into a nearby parking lot and did a U-turn, almost throwing Amu from the car. Amu told police the couple fights often, but the police have never been called.

Amu was not injured Tuesday, but police said she was shaking when they arrived at the scene. Salas was taken to Gwinnett County jail. He faces charges for aggravated assault, reckless conduct and simple battery
